Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut is certainly bringing the controversy. The Womens Victims of War (WVW) is gunning to have the actress stripped of her UNHCR Ambassador position over the content of her Bosnian War love story, which she wrote, produced and is directing. Angelina had agreed to meet with the women over the script, which reportedly is about a Muslim woman who falls in love with her Serbian rapist, but she invited them to meet in Hungary while the WVW group insisted on meeting in Bosnia where the war crimes had been committed. They write: “We have insisted to meet Angelina Jolie since we don’t want to be wrongly presented in the world… Our voices are worthwhile and we should have got much more respect… “Angelina made a big mistake. We feel that she did not act like a real UNHCR ambassador and we believe that she has no more credibility to remain the ambassador.” WVW boss Bakira Hasecic adds to the AFP, “We wanted to talk woman to woman. She should have asked after the victims, come (to Bosnia) before the shooting to hear our voice. “As far as we are concerned a love story could not have existed in a camp. Such an interpretation is causing us mental suffering.” I can understand Angelina not wanting to meet with the group in Bosnia, as there were concerns for her safety . Do you think if the group truly wanted to talk, they would’ve comprised and met with her in Hungary? The controversy is only piquing my interest in reading the script ! I’m doubtful that the UNHCR is going to strip Angelina of her title – she has done so much to bring attention to otherwise unknown problems throughout the world. Photos by INF
